Gold In These Hills
Raking morning light on the Dava picks up the autumn grass and abandoned farm. I've looked at this location for several years and explored the ruin but it was only in the early morning light late in the year that everything comes together to make the image I had in my mind. This can be such a desolate location and the farmers must have been very hardy. It remains a bit of an ecological desert by aggressive management as a grouse shooting moor. This fact was reinforced by only having grouse for company. No deer, hares, geese or raptors as often seen in other areas of the highlands. Having spent so much time here, I still have great affection for this landscape which sometimes really shows the potential it has for life-affirming beauty.
